We, the undersigned have formed a London-wide group called the Crossrail Coalition of Residents And Petitioners, hereafter referred to as The Coalition, to address the absence of proof on the £17bn+ Crossrail Bill. We are opposed to the Crossrail Bill in its present form because we believe it to be unlawful, unfair and unnecessarily harmful. We hope the Government will give MPs and the public full information about the Crossrail Hybrid Bill prior to the Third Reading.
We call on the Government to provide evidential proof of the following:
- The lawfulness of the Crossrail Bill in its present form
- Why the selected route goes under historic part of residential London while protecting development sites?
- the failure to provide substantiated reasons for selecting the present route over viable less harmful alternatives
- specify why compensation arrangements are inadequate and unequal
- state why Crossrail are not expected to adopt best practice industry standards
- specify why key documents were not made available until after petition hearings
- specify how harm can be mitigated if key information is to be withheld until after the Crossrail Bill has gained Royal Assent
- the exact cost of the estimated £17bn Crossrail scheme
- the exact burden of taxpayers
- the exact benefits of the Crossrail scheme to London and UK communities outside the City and Canary Wharf
